How It Works (at a glance)

The system is designed with general consumer Internet use in mind. This means that the MDSA MVDDS architecture is asymmetric in design, where the downstream channel has a much higher bandwidth allocation (faster data rate) than the upstream. This asymmetric network design is derived primarily from the asymmetric nature of Internet usage. Consumer actions such as surfing the web send much more data downstream from the user as opposed to the user uploading data to the network. Mouse clicks (URL requests) and e-mails are not bandwidth intensive in the upstream direction. Image files, streaming media and audio files such as MP3's are bandwidth intensive in the downstream direction.

From a transmission point of view, data is transmitted in a similar fashion as the television terrestrial broadcasting method. The MPEG-2 DVB Internet Radio Server consists of a number of components that carry out various functions ranging from IP encryption to authentication. It is a turnkey system and no extra equipment is needed to provide high-speed internet access.

At the subscriber end, an MDSA MVDDS modem will be used. This will typically have multiple interfaces: an antenna interface, a ethernet interface, and a interface for the upstream transmission. They then receive an IP address (dynamic or static) from our NOC. this upstream connection can be achieved with many different methods to include WiMax, WiFi, WLL, PSTN etc. MDSA will design and install the upstream connection based on customer needs and available spectrum allocations. Information downlink will be provided via the high-speed MDSA MVDDS system.

The MDSA MVDDS system enables data delivery to end users at speeds exceeding 7 Mbps for each customer. Currently the total speed is 60 Mbps per transponder. in the US, the can be more than 20 transponders.

This MVDDS DVB based MVDDS system can compete with any modern consumer data delivery method other than Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH). To compete with FTTH, look at the MDSA GigaBand system.
